Director General of the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) Mr. Emmanuel Mkilia has emphasized the protection of people's privacy especially for this period when Tanzania and the world are focusing on the digital economy.

That has been explained by Mr. Mkilia while he is in a special interview with the TBC television station on the Mizani program as one of the ways to provide public education of the whole concept of Personal Data Protection so that can be understood by the community including Data Subject, Data Collectors and Data Processors.

"We have ensured that the Commission has the ability to carry out its duties in accordance with the law, we are currently providing education to the public in order to bring awareness to the Data Subject, Data collectors and Data processors, to manage Personal Data Protection Act by registering and get certificates that shows they are ready to follow the law", said Mr. Mkilia.

"Right now, there are so many services that are provided digitally, the big customer is the person who is responsible for the data we are talking about. And in order to get those services he/she has to provide his/her personal data so it is important to make sure that the data is used as required and his/her privacy is protected in order to build a Tanzania that cares about humanity, human rights and peoples’ privacy as we continue to focus on the digital economy".

Also Mr. Mkilia has asked all Government and Private Institutions to register and ensure that they get a PDPC registration certificate in order to build confidence and get the opportunity to perform their duties inside and outside the country borders as they will be observing the Personal Data Protection Act in the implementation of their duties.

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) is an independent commission created in accordance with the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania, Article 16 (1) and (2) which provides the right to privacy to every citizen and directs the creation of a body to manage the protection of those privacy and was officially launched on April 3, 2024 by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Hon.
