The Personal Data Protection Commission takes pride in being a unique guide in safeguarding and protect your personal data privacy rights in Tanzania. As a member of Regional and International Communities, Tanzania recognizes the importance of having laws and independent institutions to address the challenges of protecting personal data. Our goal is to facilitate the safe use of personal information in accordance with the laws, regulations, and procedures.
The Personal Data Protection Commission of Tanzania upholds the principles of the East African Community, the Southern African Development Community, the African Union, and the International Community in establishing essential Cybersecurity Laws. The Personal Data Protection Act of 2022 governs your right to privacy in accordance with the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Constitution of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, as directed in the implementation of Personal Data Protection in the country.
Our Commission, established in May 2023, is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Act No. 11 of 2022. We register data collectors and processors, receive and resolve complaints regarding privacy violations of personal data, we conduct research and collaborate with other countries on Personal Data Protection issues. Along with our regulations on the collection and processing of personal data, we ensure that data protection meets international standards as required.
The Commission has a modern online system for registering data collectors and processors, as well as a complaint-handling system, to ensure that the proper procedures for data disclosure and management are followed in accordance with the Law. Our role is to ensure that we establish the foundations for facilitating the safe use of Personal Data in Tanzania.
